Dr. Shannon Gregory Cox is a board certified ophthalmologist who specializes in oculoplastic surgery. His practice is devoted to diseases of the eyelids, orbit, and tear system in adults and children.
Dr. Cox grew up in Oklahoma City. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. He returned to Oklahoma for medical school at the University of Oklahoma where he graduated Alpha Omega Alpha and Summa Cum Laude. He completed a residency in general ophthalmology at the Callahan Eye Hospital in Birmingham, Ala. While there he served as chief resident. He stayed in Birmingham to do a fellowship in oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery sponsored by the American Society of Oculoplastic and Reconstructive surgery. Only ten percent of applicant surgeons are selected each year to participate in these highly competitive and intense two year surgical fellowships. During his fellowship he performed over three thousand surgeries, the most in the country. Dr. Cox and his wife currently live in Owasso.
Dr. Cox treats abnormal eyelid positions that lead to irritated eyes or blocked vision. He performs nasolacrimal duct intubations and DCRs (dacryocystorhinostomy) for tear duct blockages. He removes blind and painful eyes and prepares the socket for prosthesis fittings. He treats skin cancers of the eyelid often in conjunction with a dermatologist. Dr. Cox also fixes bony fractures to the orbit and complex eyelid lacerations. He treats orbital tumors and thyroid eye disease. He injects Botox for blepharospasm and hemi-facial spasm. Dr. Cox is also trained to perform cosmetic surgery on the eyelids and eyebrows.
