Born and raised in Tulsa, Dr. Jamal Siddiqui has performed complex surgeries covering all areas of Ophthalmology. He obtained his Bachelor of Engineering degree, cum laude, in Biomedical Engineering from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. He earned his medical degree with distinction from University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. While pursuing his medical degree, Dr. Siddiqui was awarded the Freda Sorensen Plummer Scholarship, and was selected to participate in the honors research program discovering neuronal brainstem pathways in the auditory system.
Following his internship at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, Ill., he began his ophthalmology residency at the Brown University Warren Alpert School of Medicine in Providence, R.I.. During his final year at Brown, he served as Chief Resident and was published in the Journal of Neuro-Ophthalmology all the while scoring in the 97th percentile amongst all ophthalmology residents nationwide on the Ophthalmic Knowledge Assessment Program exam.
Dr. Siddiqui trained at the Rhode Island Hospital, which is the only level 1 trauma center in the state. He has also received the William G. Tsiaras Research Award for developing a protocol to treat diabetic retinopathy (macular edema) while at the Rhode Island Hospital Eye Clinic. Dr. Siddiqui is a current fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
